Breaking the cycle of abuse: Her Centre

For survivors of domestic and sexual violence, escaping abuse is only the first step in a long and difficult journey toward safety, stability, and independence. Many women face months or even years in temporary housing, often spending months in hotels with no cooking facilities, while waiting for permanent accommodation. This instability take a toll not only on their basic needs, but also their mental and emotional well-being.

Her Centre has been a pillar of support for women in Greenwich for over 13 years, providing Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocacy (IDSVA) services to more than 1,200 women every year. The majority of these women are referred through their housing services, the police, social services, and healthcare providers, with many in urgent need of safe housing to escape their abusers. White there is a statutory duty to rehouse abuse survivors, a severe lack of accommodation means families can remain in limbo for extended periods. This prolonged uncertainty pushes some women to return to their abusers, as they struggle with the impact of unstable living conditions on their children and their own well-being.

To address this urgent need, we are supporting Her Centre to fund a crisis relief fund and a well-being soft skills development course. The crisis fund will provide direct assistance to women in temporary accommodation, helping them access food, supermarket vouchers, toiletries, and other essentials to maintain a basic standard of living. Additionally, the confidence-building course will empower women with the tools to rebuild their self-worth, set boundaries, and make choices that prioritise their safety and happiness. Taught by a practicing counsellor, the course will focus on reshaping negative inner narratives, fostering self-kindness, and learning to recognise and choose supportive relationships.

By funding these initiatives, we are ensuring that women fleeing abuse are not just surviving but gaining the support and confidence they need to rebuild their lives. Every woman deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to heal.

If you would like to help us support women in crisis, DONATE TODAY.

Every penny donated goes directly into helping those in need. 🙏💙
