Bringing comfort to Newham: The Magpie Project
We are proud to shine a spotlight on The Magpie Project, a charitable organisation based in Newham, who have recently received one of our project grants. Founded in 2017 by a passionate group of mums and community members, The Magpie Project aims to support mothers with children under 5 living in temporary or insecure housing.
Thanks to our grant, The Magpie Project was able to address a critical yet often overlooked need: clean and comfortable bedding for families transitioning into temporary accommodation, as these are more often that not, unprovided. Through our support, items such as duvets, pillows and pillowcases have been purchased and distributed to those who need them. The impact? A sense of stability, comfort, and dignity during a turbulent time. Fresh bedding has helped children sleep better and reduced parents’ stress.
The Magpie Project said:
“Many of the families we support arrive at temporary accommodation with few personal belongings and are often forced to sleep under coats and scarves. The mums we have provided bedding to have expressed relief and gratitude, sharing how something as simple as fresh sheets has given them a sense of normalcy and control amid sometimes chaotic circumstances.”
We are incredibly proud to support the work of The Magpie Project and the life-changing impact they make. We hope that these small acts of kindness will lead to big transformations.
