Individual Grant: Refuge

Refuge provides specialist emergency accommodation and community support for women and children escaping domestic violence.

The Situation

We supported a client and her 3-year-old son currently living in a very bare, unfurnished room in a shared house after being deemed ‘homeless’. They fled a severe domestic abuse situation where the ex-husband returned unexpectedly, became abusive, and locked them out without allowing them to retrieve any belongings.

The Impact of our Grant

Funding allowed the family to purchase essential home goods and appliances, such as a microwave, blender, bedding, and clothing, to make their temporary living space functional, safe, and comfortable.

From our Referee Partner

“The client would be able to purchase some goods for her room to make it more comfortable for herself and her son, such as a microwave, blender, bedding, and some clothing, as they had to leave almost everything behind when they fled.”

Why this support matters

Providing comfortable home essentials and practical kitchen items eases the transition out of trauma and sudden homelessness, helping families regain dignity and feel settled while in temporary housing.
