Supporting Student Care Leavers: Brent Leaving Care Service

Brent Leaving Care Service supports young people transitioning from the care system to independent living, helping them build life skills and stability.

The Situation

We supported a young care leaver who has been living in temporary accommodation since 2024 while studying Business (1st year) at university. She is currently engaging with mental health services and awaiting trauma therapy, but is facing issues with failing, leaking household equipment.

The Impact of our Grant

Funding was put toward purchasing a new washing machine to replace her current one, which has a broken/leaking warranty and is worsening with every use.

From our Referee Partner

“The YP would be happy to be able to put the funds towards a new washing machine as the current one’s 1-year warranty has run out. The washing machine is leaking and getting worse with every use.”

Why this support matters

Ensuring a young care leaver at university has functional, reliable essential white goods prevents compounding stress and tenancy strain, providing a secure and stable foundation for her studies and wellbeing.
