How we’ve helped: PramDepot
Preparing for a new baby should be a time of care and anticipation. But for many mothers living in temporary accommodation, especially those with no recourse to public funds, it can be full of stress and uncertainty. Without access to money, support networks, or even basic facilities, many are left without the essentials they need to safely welcome their child.
PramDepot is a charity in Haringey providing baby clothes, essential items, and prams to vulnerable mothers across London facing severe financial hardship. Through referral partners, the organisation reaches mums in the most challenging situations and ensures they have the essentials to care for their newborns.
How our funding helped
Our grant supported the organisation’s baby box project for pregnant women with no recourse to public funds, many of whom are living in temporary accommodation such as hotels. Each box is carefully prepared and delivered around 6 weeks before a mother’s due date, ensuring she has all the essentials before going to hospital.
Every box includes a bundle of clothing, blankets, a sling, a breast pump, bottles, nappies, wet wipes, toiletries, a towel, a toy, and a book. The funding was primarily used to purchase items that must be new, such as breast pumps, bottles, and nappies.
Thoughtfully designed support
The baby boxes are developed in consultation with the women and their referral partner, to ensure the items are practical and suited to life in temporary accommodation, often without access to proper kitchen or washing facilities.
Great care is taken not just in what goes into each box, but how it is presented. All items are high quality, and each box is arranged as a gift, complete with a handwritten card. The aim is to offer something that feels personal and thoughtful, rather that institutional.
Impact on wellbeing
For mothers facing extremely difficult circumstances, these boxes provide immediate relief. They ensure babies have safe clothing, feeding equipment, and essentials, while reducing stress for parents who would otherwise have no way to prepare
The impact goes beyond practical support; receiving a thoughtfully prepared box helps mothers feel seen and supported during a time that can otherwise feel isolating.
As one mum shared, receiving her box “made me feel that someone else (not only me) was celebrating my baby’s arrival.”
Referrers have also highlighted how the boxes enabled the parents to care for their babies more safely and confidently, while making it easier to leave their accommodation to access further support and attend appointments.
Why this work matters
PramDepot shows how small, practical support can have a profound impact. By providing essential items, they are helping mothers feel more prepared, less alone, and able to welcome their babies safely.
We are proud to support PramDepot and their work to ensure every new mother, regardless of her circumstances, has the essentials and the support she needs.
