Project Grant: English for Action πŸ’Œ

English for Action exists to help UK migrants gain the language, skills, and networks they need to thrive and help create a fair and equal society. The organisation provides free and accessible English classes and community activities that equip participants to know their rights and bring about positive change for themselves, their communities and wider society.

Our grant will allow the organisation to continue providing free English classes and reach isolated migrants in temporary accommodation across 6 London boroughs.

English for Action shared:

“Migrants, refugees, and people seeking asylum are disproportionately affected by barriers to education, health outcomes, and exploitation. In London, where 37,7% of the population was born outside the UK, the need for accessible English language education is critical. Approximately 50% of rough sleepers in London are not from the UK, and migrant workers regularly report racial abuse and exploitation, yet feel unable to challenge these issues due to language barriers. These vulnerabilities are compounded by the stark realities of living in temporary accommodation, where lack of privacy, lack of choice, acute uncertainty and overcrowding worsen the situation.”
